It was a sunny but slightly windy afternoon for our Quorn Family Tennis Cup event. This was a special adult and child team event sponsored by Quorn, and with events taking place all over the country up until mid-May, it was certainly going to a busy and fun afternoon.
We had a fantastic number of entries – 11 teams in total – with a mixture of Dad & son, Dad & daughter, Mum & son teams taking part. The competition was open to all junior members, 10 years old or younger and competing with an adult family member. Doubles matches took place on a mini-red court with a red ball which was a first for pretty much all of the adults!
Coach Gavin organised the teams into 2 boxes with the top 4 teams going into semi-finals. Whilst Beck Nally and his Dad, Mark played Oliver Carter and his mum, Sarah in one semi-final, Louie Goodman-Wilson and Dad, Craig played Kyla Garner and her Dad, Dale in the other.
Beck and Louie came out tops for a tense final which saw the Nally team clinch it by just a couple of points.
Beck and Mark now get the chance to play at a pre-Wimbledon grass court finals tournament during a qualifying weekend of one of the major Aegon championship events where they’ll also get to watch the professionals play.
The whole afternoon was a huge success with everyone having lots of fun and some brilliant tennis played. We hope to do more parent and child events in the future.
A massive well done to everyone who took part!
